Pael Shield

Defensive relic family and survival math

Pael Shield is a defensive relic-family page for explaining how survival relics change route risk and boss preparation.

Relic note

Defensive relics are strongest when they change route decisions. Pael Shield-style relics should be ranked by the fights they make safer: an elite that becomes pathable, a boss turn that stops forcing a rest, or a slow deck that finally has time to set up.

Defensive relic pages should explain the route or fight window they unlock.
  • Raise the relic when it changes pathing or rest decisions.
  • Lower it when the deck still lacks damage to end fights.
  • Pair defensive relic notes with boss-prep warnings.

Survival math checklist

Pael Shield should be scored by what it lets the run do next. If the relic preserves enough HP for an upgrade, makes an elite path realistic, or gives a setup deck one more turn before pressure peaks, it is doing real work. If the deck still cannot end fights, defense alone may only delay the loss.

  • Route value: does it open an elite, campfire, or shop path?
  • Boss value: does it cover a known pressure turn?
  • Deck value: does it buy enough time for the current payoff to matter?

Damage tradeoff

A defensive relic is not automatically correct over damage. Pael Shield is strongest when the deck already has a way to win fights but lacks safety. If the deck has no damage or scaling, a shield effect can protect HP while still leaving the next boss unresolved.

When to raise confidence

Raise Pael Shield confidence when repeated runs show the same route consequence: fewer forced rests, safer elites, or boss turns that stop being lethal. Keep it lower when the relic looks useful but does not visibly change the path or the reward choices.

  • Track HP saved before the next campfire or shop.
  • Track whether the relic protects an upgrade instead of a rest.
  • Track whether slow builds become pathable because of the defensive buffer.

FAQ

Are defensive relics worse than damage relics?

No. They are better when survival changes the route or preserves upgrades, and worse when the deck cannot finish fights.

When is Pael Shield a high-priority relic?

It is high priority when the deck already has a win condition and needs defensive reliability to take safer elites, preserve upgrades, or survive a known boss turn.

Can a defensive relic replace block cards?

No. It can reduce pressure, but the deck still needs enough block or mitigation to handle bad hands and longer fights.
